Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
Sustainable development cannot be aspired to without peace, stability, human rights and effective governance based on the rule of law. Yet the world is increasingly divided. Armed violence, crime, exploitation, torture and insecurity have a destructive impact on countries' development, affecting economic growth and often giving rise to grievances that last for generations.
This goal aims to significantly reduce all forms of violence, to work with governments and communities to end conflict and insecurity, and to protect those most at risk. Promoting the rule of law and human rights is critical to the implementation of this process, as is reducing the flow of illicit arms and strengthening the participation of developing countries within the institutions of global governance.
