Copyright as it affects faculty

    3. How to use documents protected by copyright in teaching: the Library’s course reserves
Course Reserves is a section of the Library portal where parts of reading list texts can be stored, or links placed to copyright-protected documents, specifically for classes in the subject and with access protected by a password. Even before a digital copy for class use is made of originals already published in hard copy, faculty need to ask the Library to check they do not already have a licence to use those documents, in which case a link to them can be accessed. If this option is not available, the contents can still be digitized within certain limits. The "fair use" practice that obtains in other jurisdictions, and permits the use of copyright material for teaching, is not in effect in Italy: distribution in class of parts of books or articles from a copyright document is not permitted without a licence which the library commits to obtaining using various methods according to texts requested.
